Submit to your governing authorities. Submit to all of them because God, Himself, gave them their authority. However, while the command to submit is simple to understand, it can be so difficult to practice. What if we disagree with their decisions? What if they're not trustworthy or godly? And what, precisely, does submission look like in a democracy like ours?

Those who follow Christ will be persecuted. It's a promise. There will be a cost if you stand for Jesus in this hostile world. And when that mistreatment, ridicule, and abuse comes our way, we are to do the impossible: we are to respond in radical love. Rather than demand justice, we must sacrifice our rights to serve and care for those who hate us and frustrate us. We must ask God to love them supernaturally through us. And as we do so, we overcome evil with good.

Because of the overwhelming grace and mercy of God granted to us through the faithful work of Jesus Christ (Romans 1-11), the only reasonable response is to offer God all that we have and all that we are as an act of worship (Romans 12:1-2). In order for us to worship well through our service to others, God has placed gifts within His children through His Spirit (Romans 12:3-8), making each of us unique and each of us necessary.

True love is what brings us together today. Not a love based on emotions or feelings, but a love for one another based on devotion and sacrifice. True love is the love of God: unconditional, selfless, and costly. In gratitude for His outrageous love towards us, we are called to sacrificially love one another. And Paul tells us how in this convicting and empowering passage.

How we view and handle our money and possessions reflects significantly on our worship of God. Specifically, our money acts an asset in worship, reveals of our choice in what we worship, and also shows our appreciation even for those who lead us in worship. Even more, our money reflects significantly on our partnership world-wide with other churches to see the gospel proclaimed throughout the world so that worship is established where it currently does not exist.

After centuries of rebellion against God culminating in the crucifixion of His Son and persecution of His people, can there really be any hope left for the Jewish people? Can God fulfill His promises to them as His chosen people? Paul's answer is an emphatic, 'Yes!' God is right now demonstrating His faithfulness to the Jews by saving some of them and by using all of them to bless the rest of the world. And in the future, God will draw all of Israel back to Himself and finally fulfill all of His covenant promises. So Israel is not beyond hope, and if they're not beyond hope after millennia of disobedience, then neither are we!

If the history of the Jewish people in their relationship with God is one of consistent, stubborn rebellion (Romans 10:21), is there any hope for the Jews? Can any of them be saved? Can God fulfill His promises to them as His chosen people? Paul's answer is an emphatic, 'Yes!' God is right now demonstrating His faithfulness to the Jews by saving some (a 'remnant'), and He will demonstrate His faithfulness in the future by fulfilling His covenant promises ('all Israel will be saved').

According to Romans 10, because most of them did not choose God (free will). Paul proves that God's election does not invalidate our responsibility to believe by systematically dismantling the three most common excuses a Jew, or any person, might give for rejecting the gospel. When all is said and done, we have no excuse!

If the Jews are God's chosen people, then why are there so few of them in the Church? Has God failed to keep His promises to Israel? And if He has failed to keep His promises to Israel, how can we non-Jews trust that He will keep His promises to us--namely, 'nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord'?! Paul argues in Romans 9 that God has always been true to His promises and His character, abounding in sovereign mercy to the undeserving. God demonstrates His faithfulness by acting through individuals and among the nations to make His saving power known throughout the earth.

The priest's of Malachi's day had grown too comfortable in their roles and so their attitude towards God blinded them towards certain realities of His character and His words causing their actions to blindly follow. We often do this in prayer as we're either overly comfortable because we have prayed often or we simply never approach Him in prayer because we think it is something meant for emergencies. God paints a picture in Malachi that the priests need to stop and remember who He is, so that they will respond correctly to Him - the same is true for us.

It is clear by these metaphors that Jesus wants us to know and believe that He is '...the Christ, the Son of God; and that by believing you may have life in His name.' (John 20:31)

God's first command to mankind is actually found in Genesis 2, not Genesis 1. A closer look at this command shows a beautiful structure of lavish provision, small prohibition and strong penalty - a pattern of God seen throughout the rest of Scripture. However, in Genesis 3:2-3, Eve's recitation of this first command reveals our tendency to reduce God's provision, increase His prohibition and weaken His penalties.
