Free from Law Blake Jennings Romans Romans 7:1-13 Notes Slides
God's Law is good. It's holy. It's useful. But when we try to use the Law, or any other list of rules, to draw us closer to God, failure inevitably follows. The rules just become an inspiration to sin. They can tell us what to do, but they can't help us do it. So thank God that He has freed us from the Law so that we might draw near to Him in a new way, in the way of grace!

Romans 1-6 Review Blake Jennings Romans Romans 1-6 Notes Slides
The first half of Romans answers some of life's greatest questions. What's wrong with this world, and whose fault is it? What hope do we have in the midst of our sin? Is God's grace in salvation free or costly? Why shouldn't justified people sin? Why are we here; what's our purpose in life? We'll answer these questions and more by looking back through the most significant passages in Romans 1-6.

Romans 1-6 Review Brian Fisher Romans Romans 1-6 Notes Slides
The book of Romans is not about us. It is not simply about how men and women 'get saved.' Romans is about God, and specifically, His righteousness. In Romans the Apostle Paul demonstrates that God is righteous in all that He is and in all that He does - He is righteous in the condemnation of all sin, in the justification of sinners, in the sanctification of the justified, in the outworking of His plan in history, and He manifests His righteous through our lives to a fallen world.

Mission Philippians Trey Corry Philippians Philippians 1:1-6 Notes Slides
The apostle Paul and the church in Philippi form a close-knit team with a costly mission (the Great Commission) that has a certain ending.

Life's Highest Priority Matt Morton Philippians Philippians 1:1-2 Notes Slides

Free from Sin, Enslaved to God Blake Jennings Romans Romans 6:12-23 Notes Slides
False advertising at its best is funny, but at its worst is fatal. And the hands-down worst case of false advertising in all of human history is sin. Sin promises fun and satisfaction, but delivers just the opposite. It leads us down a path of addiction, shame, and death. Fortunately, we have a choice. We can obey our new Master, the Lord God, and enjoy His power, His peace, and His freedom.

Freed from Sin, Enslaved to God Brian Fisher Romans Romans 6:12-23 Notes Slides
Bob Dylan used to sing, You're gonna have to serve somebody...it may be the devil or it may be the Lord but you're gonna have to serve somebody. Mr. Dylan may not have understood the full implications of what he was singing, but he spoke truth nevertheless. We all serve somebody - ourselves, sin and death, or God, obedience and righteousness. As Christians, we have been freed from serving the destructive master, sin - it is no longer necessary or appropriate for us to sin since we now belong to God. And when we offer ourselves up to God, we discover that He is a good, life-giving Master.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God Brian Fisher Romans Romans 6:1-11 Notes Slides
God's grace is without limit: where sin abounds, grace super-abounds! But if that's true, then why not let sin reign in our lives so that we can get more of God's grace? After all, sin's easy and pleasurable, at least for a while. So why not let sin reign? Because of Jesus... because the infinite, perfect, innocent Son of God died and rose again for this explicit purpose: to emancipate us once-and-for-all from slavery to sin. Because we've been united to His death and resurrection, we need never serve sin again. Let us know it, believe it, and live it!

Living in Light of Heaven Matt Morton Heaven_Hell_and_the_Here_and_Now   Notes Slides

Now Thank We All Our God Brian Fisher AdditionalSermons 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Notes Slides
Rejoice always! It is a command, and therefore, we must conclude that it can and should be obeyed. But what does it mean, and how can it be obeyed when so many of our circumstances are difficult and overwhelming? To rejoice is a choice, not a feeling; it is an attitude or perspective gained by looking to the future, while not ignoring the present. It is an orientation toward life that can be experienced only by praying...and praying...and praying...without ever ceasing, and by cultivating a heart that continuously gives thanks in everything.

The Basis of Justification (Representation) Blake Jennings Romans Romans 5:12-21 Notes Slides
At this very moment every person on this planet is represented before God by one of two men - Adam or Jesus Christ. Adam's one sin in the Garden brought death, both physical and spiritual, to himself and to all of humanity. Because he sinned, we die. That may not seem fair, but because we were represented by one man, Adam, in death, we can also be represented by one man, Jesus, in life. And the one great hope for all of humanity is that the gracious act of Jesus completely overcomes the deadly act of Adam...and this gift is available to all who believe.

The Basis of Justification (Representation) Brian Fisher Romans Romans 5:12-21 Notes Slides
At this very moment, each member of humanity is represented before God by one of two men - Adam or Jesus Christ. Adam's one sin in the Garden brought death to himself and to all of humanity. No one can escape the verdict of condemnation because we are related to him. It may not seem fair, but because we were represented by one man, Adam, in death, we can also be represented by one man, Jesus, in life. And the one great hope for all of humanity is that the gracious act of Jesus completely overcomes the deadly act of Adam...and this gift is available to all who believe.

Sex, as God designed it, is meant to point to and mirror Him. Unfortunately, many of us have developed distorted views of what sex is, and we've lost sight of God's plan. The Blessings of Justification Brian Fisher Romans Romans 5:1-11 Notes Slides
Having believed in the faithful work of Jesus Christ on the cross, God has declared us to be in right relationship with him...we are justified. But just how good is that legal declaration? Has it changed anything practically in our lives? Has it changed anything in our relationship with God? In Romans 5 the Apostle Paul exultantly proclaims the blessings of our justification - permanent peace with God and enduring hope, both for the future and in the pressures of our present sufferings.

The Blessings of Justification Blake Jennings Romans Romans 5:1-11 Notes Slides
Through faith in the faithful sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, God has declared us to be righteous in His sight...we are justified. But what impact, if any, does that have on our daily lives? Does justification have any practical bearing on our lives as students, mothers, fathers, teachers, business owners? It absolutely does! Justification brings the practical blessings of peace in the present and hope in the future; peace and hope that are settled, secure, and unconquerable.

Righteous By Faith - Part 2: Faith AND or Faith ALONE? Blake Jennings Romans Romans 3:27-4:25 Notes Slides
In no uncertain terms Paul tells us that we are justified by God through faith alone, apart from any works. That's easy to understand, but so hard to accept! So we are tempted to add our own works back into the equation to earn, keep, or prove our righteous standing before God. Yet in so doing, we dishonor God, divide His family, and destroy our basis for hope and peace in life.

What purposes does God have for our career? Can our jobs as students or employees actually lead to the establishment of heaven on earth?

Righteous by Faith - Part 1: What is Faith? Blake Jennings Romans Romans 3:27-4:25 Notes Slides
Faith is one of the most common words in our Christian vocabulary. But what does it actually mean? We better know how to answer that question because, as Paul tells us in this passage, faith is the one and only expectation placed upon us to be declared 'in right standing' with God.

Righteous By Faith - Part 1: What is faith? Brian Fisher Romans Romans 3:27-4:25 Notes Slides
Sometimes the simplest of words can become confusing. 'Faith' is one such biblical term. However, it is in our best interest to figure out exactly what this word means, because Paul tells us that it is the one expectation placed upon us to be declared 'in right standing' with God.

God in a Box Mark Yarbrough iLeader 1 Samuel 4:1-11 Notes Slides
God is bigger than anything that represents his presence. Don't trust in the things that symbolize God ... Trust God. God wants a life change that stems from a heart change. Present God a Broken and Humble Heart.

Righteous in Christ Brian Fisher Romans Romans 3:21-26 Notes Slides
God is righteous, but we are not. As a result, each and every person is born under a sentence of condemnation for his or her sin. But God, in His immeasurable grace, refused to abandon us to our inevitable doom. Instead He intervened with a solution: His Son. Jesus lived the faithful life that no person has ever lived, and He obediently died upon on the cross to satisfy God's wrath against each and every sinner. Because of Jesus, God can be both righteous, and the one who declares as righteous every person who believes.

What About Those Who Have Never Heard the Gospel? Trey Corry Heaven_Hell_and_the_Here_and_Now Romans 1:18-20 Notes Slides
So many people wonder how God will determine the eternal destinies of those who have never actually heard the gospel. Thankfully, the Scriptures reveal quite a bit for us to formulate an answer as we consider tribesmen in Africa, babies, and the mentally handicapped as possible examples.

Is There Hell On Earth? Matt Morton Heaven_Hell_and_the_Here_and_Now   Notes Slides
At times the earth seems hellish, full of death, sin, and pain. Why is it like that right now? God has enemies who are seeking to destroy His plans, although He will ultimately win the victory. Each day we make choices to align with God or with His enemies.

Justification: In Messiah Jesus Blake Jennings Romans Romans 3:21-26 Notes Slides
God is righteous and we are not. That is the fundamental, unavoidable, inescapable problem humanity faces. But God, in grace, has provided a solution: His Son. Jesus lived the faithful life we did not and died a propitiatory death, satisfying the wrath of God that we deserve. His faithfulness in life and death brings us both redemption and justification. Because of Jesus, God can be both just and justifier of all who believe!

Sinners Condemned Blake Jennings Romans Romans 1:18-32 Notes Slides
God is right - in all that He is and all that He does. Unfortunately, we are not. Out of a deep and abiding love for sin, humanity has willingly rejected God. As a result, we all deserve God's righteous wrath - His righteous anger against sin put into action against sinners. Humanity is not okay; we are not getting by; we are not getting better. Our only hope is to turn to God in faith and find deliverance through Christ from the downward spiral of sin and wrath.

Sinners Condemned Brian Fisher Romans Romans 1:18-32 Notes Slides
God is right - in all that He is and all that He does. God's 'right-ness' is revealed in the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the fulfillment of His covenant promises through Abraham to the entire world. But God is also right in His condemnation of mankind's utter, degenerative sinfulness. It is this active rejection of God and His self-revelation that makes the work of Christ so absolutely necessary for all of mankind.

Where Do People Go When They Die? Trey Corry Heaven_Hell_and_the_Here_and_Now Luke 16:19-31 Notes Slides
Death leads to a radical reversal of man's situational position and God's creational purpose. This reversal is also incomplete as death doesn't have the final verdict. Yet, it is also irreversible as our eternal destiny cannot be changed after death.

What Happens When We Die? Matt Morton Heaven_Hell_and_the_Here_and_Now   Notes Slides

The Gospel's Calling Blake Jennings Romans Romans 1:8-15 Notes Slides
When you meet someone new, how do you introduce yourself? 'Hello, my name is ______, and I'm a...' What? How a person completes that sentence tells us a lot about them. For Paul, that introduction included two titles: slave of Messiah Jesus and Apostle by God's call. Those two titles summarized his sense of identity and his priorities in life. He is, first and foremost, a slave: a dreadful word that becomes a badge of honor for all those who belong to Jesus, including us. And he's called to be an Apostle: a messenger of God's grace. And though we aren't called to be 'Apostles with a capital A' like Paul, we do share His mission and his obligation to proclaim God's grace to the world.

The Gospel's Calling Brian Fisher Romans Romans 1:8-15 Notes Slides
You may never see a burning bush or a blinding light. You may never hear a voice from heaven, but if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you have been called - called to salvation, called to a life of holiness, called to share the ultimate good news of forgiveness of sins and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. This calling is a debt; it is an obligation; it is a duty; and it is also life's greatest privilege.

The Gospel's Messiah Blake Jennings Romans Romans 1:1-7 Notes Slides
What's so great about Jesus? Does He deserve our devotion? To answer that question, we must wrestle with the four Old Testament titles that Paul attributes to Jesus in the theology-packed greeting of Romans. Jesus is our Christ, our promised Messiah. He is descendent of David and, therefore, the once and future king of all the world. He is the Son-of-God-in-Power, crowned with glory and might, terrifying to behold. And He is Lord of all of creation, and Lord of every square inch of our lives.

Righteous: God and His Gospel Blake Jennings Romans Romans 1:16-17 Notes Slides
What excites you? What are you a fanatic about? For Paul, nothing so captivated his mind as the gospel, the good news that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead. That simple good news, the heartbeat of the book of Romans, unleashes God's infinite power to save, and it does so for anyone and everyone who simply believes. The gospel is God's definitive declaration that, true to His promises, He will make all things right not just for us, but for all of creation.

Why is it So Tough to Obey? Jason Wiesepape Essentials Romans 7:7-25 Notes Slides
You don't have to live the Christian life very long before you realize that real change, obedience, being who God wants you to be is extremely difficult when we try to do it on our own. However, the Apostle Paul reveals why it is so tough to obey and gives us insight on how then we shall live.

How Shall We Then Live? Blake Jennings Essentials   Notes Slides
Going through the Essentials, we've learned that our good works play no role in gaining our salvation, keeping our salvation, or proving our salvation. So why should we put forth the effort that obedience to God requires? Sin is so easy; so natural. Why fight it? God's Word gives us the answer; multiple answers, in fact; multiple reasons why obedience is infinitely better than sin.

Are You Forgetting Something? Jason Wiesepape AdditionalSermons   Notes Slides
Today in Christianity our focus is often on Jesus Christ and, to a little lesser degree, on the Holy Spirit. However, we rarely focus on God the Father, which is why the Father is often referred to as the 'forgotten' member of the Trinity. This lack of focus has significant implications on how we understand, worship and relate to God and even impacts the way we understand earthly fatherhood.

Who is God? Blake Jennings Essentials   Notes Slides
How would you describe the God of the Bible in one sentence? What is He like? What sets Him apart from the gods of other religions? In the Bible, the one true God reveals Himself to be Trinity: One God eternally existing as three Persons, Father, Son, and Spirit, who are each infinitely great and infinitely good. The more we come to know this God, the more we will be filled with love and awe for Him.

Yet that's precisely what God offers: the greatest "free lunch" in all of human history, the gift of extravagant, completely satisfying, eternal life. He offers it for free to all who will come. But while it's free for us to receive, it was immeasurably costly for God to give - it cost the life of His own Son. Why would anyone say "no" to such a gift?

Is Christianity a Crutch? Blake Jennings Isaiahs_God_and_His_Servants   Notes Slides
'Christianity is a crutch for the weak and helpless.' How many of us have heard that charge? How do we respond to it? We'll find our answer by studying the biblical concept of redemption. What does Christianity, and redemption in particular have to offer to those who don't feel weak and helpless?

All of life boils down to the question of trust. Will we trust God in times of fear, in times of affliction, and even in times of affluence and affirmation? Or will we turn elsewhere for help? Why do we sin? We sin because, just like Isaiah's audience, we believe our sins are really not that big of a deal. Our sins are small compared to other people - nothing to get too worried about. To the degree that we identify with Jesus Christ in this life, we will suffer as He did. However, to the degree that we share in His sufferings, we will also be rewarded in the next life. Peter helps us to see the good that God can bring in the midst of our suffering.

Our Promise Keeper Matt Morton Hebrews Hebrews 6:13-20 Notes Slides
The promises of God in Jesus Christ can be trusted so much more than the promises of the world. Those who are faithful have the opportunity to receive the full inheritance, reward and assurance that God intends for them.

Confidence to Continue Trey Corry Hebrews Hebrews 6:9-20 Notes Slides
Despite the strong warning of 6:1-8, the author remains confident that his audience will continue to grow spiritually and points them to Abraham as a model for their spiritual life. Beyond Abraham though, it is their being rooted in Jesus that gives them the greatest confidence to continue!

What's in it for us? Brian Fisher The_Good_Life 1 Peter 4:12-19 Notes Slides

No Turning Back Trey Corry Hebrews Hebrews 5:11-6:8 Notes Slides
In this challenging passage, the author warns his spiritually immature audience that rejection of Jesus Christ under the threat of persecution will not jeopardize a believer's eternal life but it can waste the significance of their life, destroy the quality of their life, and potentially even cut short the duration of their life.

Grow Up! Matt Morton Hebrews Hebrews 5:11-6:12 Notes Slides
Christians are called to press on to maturity in Jesus Christ. If we fail to press on, we face the danger of sliding backwards into apostasy, a sin that carries severe consequences. Faithfulness, however, has rewards.

Are you ready for the test? Blake Jennings The_Good_Life 1 Peter 4:1-11 Notes Slides
God will examine each of our lives. We don't know when that test will be, but, by God's grace, we can know exactly what will be on it! Through Peter, God gives us a study guide to prepare us for that day of testing at the Judgment Seat of Christ. If we practice the commands of this passage, we'll be ready to pass His test and enter into His reward!

Are you ready for the test? Brian Fisher The_Good_Life 1 Peter 4:1-11 Notes Slides
God will examine each of our lives. We don't know when, but we can know what He is looking for. Peter gives us a brief outline of what matters to God so that we can be prepared for that day.

We Need a Priest Matt Morton Hebrews Hebrews 4:14-5:10 Notes Slides
We need a mediator between us and God, because we are sinful and He is holy. In the days of the Old Testament, the high priest was that mediator. Jesus, however, is a better high priest. He can perfectly represent God and perfectly represent us, and is able to provide salvation and life for those who trust Him.

Proclaiming Christ to a Postmodern World Blake Jennings The_Good_Life 1 Peter 3:14-16 Notes Slides
Jesus claimed that 'no one comes to the Father but through Me.' That claim is incredibly offensive to the postmodern society in which we live; a society where truth is relative and experience is king. So how do we engage this postmodern world with the exclusive claims of the gospel? How do we help them see that 'there is salvation in no one else' but Jesus?

There Is Hope For A Postmodern World Brian Fisher The_Good_Life 1 Peter 3:13-16 Notes Slides
The Postmodern world mirrors the world of Peter's day. Pluralism and the suspicion of Christianity dominated in the first century as it does today. As a result, Peter's exhortation to persecuted, slandered believers remains relevant and timely - Be prepared to give a reason for your hope.

Victory and Vindication in Jesus Brian Fisher The_Good_Life 1 Peter 3:18-22 Notes Slides
Jesus Christ has overcome. He has proven His victory over sin, death, Satan and the world. Although we may suffer in this world as we live righteously, because we are in Him, our victory is secure.

Preparing for War Timothy Ateek College_Life Ephesians 6:10-17 Notes Slides
Every single one of us is in the middle of a war with an enemy that we can't see. In the same way that a soldier gets suited up with physical armor to fight a physical war, so we too must get suited up with spiritual armor to stand firm in a spiritual war. By putting on the armor of God, we are able to stand firm against the evil one and we are able to pursue real joy, satisfaction and life in Jesus Christ.

Victory and Vindication in Jesus Blake Jennings The_Good_Life 1 Peter 3:13-22 Notes Slides
As followers of Christ living in a fallen world, we should expect to experience persecution, not praise, for our faith. Yet, contrary to appearances, this persecution for our faith is actually a great blessing in disguise for it proves that just as we share in the sufferings of Christ at the moment, so we will share in the victory of Christ in the future.

Marriages That Glorify Jesus Matt Morton The_Good_Life 1 Peter 3:1-12 Notes Slides

God desires for us to experience the Good Life in our marriages, but that's only possible if we follow His design for marriage. Wives are called to submit to their husbands primarily by demonstrating respect for them in word and in deed, in private and in public. Husbands are called to care for and honor their wives, knowing that God takes it personally if they mistreat their wives!

Flashiness or Faithfulness? Trey Corry Hebrews Hebrews 3:1-19 Notes Slides
The author of Hebrews contrasts Jesus' perfect example of faithfulness to the nation of Israel's example of faithlessness and how such a condition developed in their lives as their hope faded, their hearts were hardened, and they eventually questioned the authority of God and His representatives. Failure to walk faithfully with the Lord results in discipline and forfeiture of the experience to see the fulfillment of God's purposes.

Keep A Soft Heart Matt Morton Hebrews Hebrews 3:7-19 Notes Slides
Apostasy, turning away from the faith, is a real danger about which the book of Hebrews warns us. We are exhorted to pay attention to our own hearts so we can avoid the hard-heartedness and sin that can lead us away from the truth.

Live the Good Life, Win the World Blake Jennings The_Good_Life 1 Peter 2:11-25 Notes Slides
How do we prove the truth of our beliefs to a skeptical world? Through a lifestyle of 'excellent conduct,' and particularly through obedient and honorable submission to those in authority over us (including our government and our employer), we show the world the power and beauty of the gospel.

The Incomparable Jesus Matt Morton Hebrews Hebrews 3:1-6 Notes Slides
No human being deserves the honor and glory which Jesus Christ is due. He is incomparable and He calls us to boldly and confidently stand in our confession of the Gospel.

The Good Life: Worship and Witness Trey Corry The_Good_Life 1 Peter 2:4-10 Notes Slides
The Good life can be seen in our purposeful and sacrificial pursuit of God in worship, a pursuit that involves far more than singing worship songs. Worship involves service in the entirety of our lives and even involves our physical posture. Such a pursuit in worship inevitably leads to the proclamation of God's goodness not only to Him but to all those around as we invite others to worship as we witness to them.

Jesus: Undercover God Trey Corry Hebrews Hebrews 2:5-18 Notes Slides
The writer of Hebrews continues to argue for the supremacy of Jesus Christ this time ironically with respect to the humility of Christ's incarnation in which we see that He identifies with us in order to intervene on our behalf as he rescues us and restores us back to the original glory humanity had at Creation.

The Good Life: Loving God's People Blake Jennings The_Good_Life 1 Peter 1:22-2:3 Notes Slides
The Good Life is a life of love - not the romantic or sexual love our world is so fixated on, but brotherly love for our fellow believers that expresses itself through sacrifice. That's how God loves, unconditionally and sincerely. And Peter tells us both why and how to love one another in this way.

Qualified to Save Us Matt Morton Hebrews Hebrews 2:5-18 Notes Slides
The incarnation and atonement of Jesus Christ ensure that we have eternal life and that we will one day fulfill our destiny of reigning as God's representatives over His creation.

The Good Life: Fervent, Unfailing Love Brian Fisher The_Good_Life 1 Peter 1:22-2:3 Notes Slides
The power to transform our identities (1:13-21) and our relationships to one another (1:22) has come through the written (1:23-2:3) and living word of God (2:4-10). Through knowledge of the word we are regenerated (permanently transformed) because it is an imperishable truth; through knowledge of the word we are empowered to love just as God has loved us.

The Good Life: Hope and Holiness Blake Jennings The_Good_Life 1 Peter 1:13-21 Notes Slides
The Good Life requires both Hope and Holiness. We can't live the good life unless we, first, fix all of our hope, all of our anticipation, upon the grace we will receive when we see Jesus face-to-face. And then, second, we must pursue holiness in every area of life. That means avoiding sin and pursuing obedience to God in every action, every word, and every thought; an incredibly difficult thing to do!

Pay Attention! Matt Morton Hebrews Hebrews 2:1-4 Notes Slides
In the first warning passage in the book of Hebrews, we are cautioned to pay close attention to the Gospel, lest we slowly drift away from the truth.

Don't Drift Away Trey Corry Hebrews Hebrews 2:1-4 Notes Slides
In light of Jesus' coming reign and spoken revelation, we are to not 'drift away' from His Word. Our departure from His truth into disobedience jeopardizes our opportunity to receive reward from Him in the future.

The Good Life: Controlled by Hope, Marked by Holiness Brian Fisher The_Good_Life 1 Peter 1:13-21 Notes Slides
Our lives have been rescued from futility through the immeasurably valuable blood of Jesus Christ. On this basis, God invites us to the best life possible - a life of hope (1:13), holiness (1:14-21), love (1:22-2:3), worship (2:4-8), witness (2:9-10), and submission (2:11-3:12).

Jesus and Angels Trey Corry Hebrews Hebrews 1:4-14 Notes Slides
God has selected Jesus, not the angels, as His King to rule the coming future kingdom of God. Until Christ's return though, the people of God proclaim His worth in worship and evangelism as we advance His kingdom on earth.

Jesus is Better Matt Morton Hebrews Hebrews 1:5-14 Notes Slides
The author of Hebrews makes it plain that Jesus is greater than the angels because He is God in the flesh. As a result, we can trust Him with our lives and our futures.

The Good Life: Choose Joy in Trials Blake Jennings The_Good_Life 1 Peter 1:6-12 Notes Slides
Joy in the midst of suffering sounds absurd. Yet it is not only possible for believers, it's entirely reasonable because as we choose to rejoice in the midst of our suffering God delivers us from sin and refines our faith. Furthermore, if we joyfully share in the sufferings of Christ in this life, then we'll joyfully share in His glorious reward in the next life. And finally, as painful as our trials may be, still we are among the most privileged beings ever to walk the face of this earth because of what Christ has done for us. So choose joy in the midst of trials.

The Good Life: Choose Joy Brian Fisher The_Good_Life 1 Peter 1:6-12 Notes Slides
Joy in the midst of suffering sounds crazy. However, Peter demonstrates that such a perspective is not only possible, but absolutely necessary and only available for the Christian.

Thank God for the Good Life Blake Jennings The_Good_Life 1 Peter 1:3-5 Notes Slides
Thank God for the Good Life! We don't need to seek it in the things of this world; it already belongs to us. God secured the good life for us in the past. He's sustaining us in the good life in the present. And He'll satisfy us completely in good life in the future. What a wonderful God we serve!

Chosen for the Good Life Blake Jennings The_Good_Life 1 Peter 1:1-2 Notes Slides
What is 'the good life?' We all want it, but how do we get it? In the book of 1 Peter, the Author of life tells us, quite simply, that the good life is the imitation of Jesus Christ. No one has ever lived a better life than He did; so the closer we follow Him, the more we experience the good life. And that life begins with the election of God, Peter's focus in the theologically packed introduction to this book.

Chosen for the Good Life Brian Fisher The_Good_Life 1 Peter 1:1-2 Notes Slides
What is the 'good life'? Everyone has some idea of what it is, and everyone is looking for it. But if we ask the Author of life, He will tell us, quite simply, that the good life is the imitation of Christ. No one has ever lived better than Jesus. No one has experienced more joy and peace and fulfillment, even alongside of rejection and suffering, than Jesus Christ. Imitate Him, and you will find the best that life has to offer.

One option works and brings God's blessing into your life. The other doesn't, and brings you only His judgment.

David: Man After God's Own Heart Brad Evans Unlikely_Heroes   Notes Slides
King David was an amazing leader who began with humble roots as the youngest child of a family of shepherds. As a teenager God used him to slay a giant, eventually he was anointed as King of Israel (reigned for 40 years) and he authored 73 of the Psalms. He was a powerful warrior, a passionate worshiper, and a gifted writer. Unfortunately, David also had a moral failure with a married woman named Bathsheba. David confesses his sin and experiences God's forgiveness (Psalm 32, 51) but experiences several painful consequences in his family as the result of his sin.

The book of Jonah is really not about Jonah, nor is it about the Ninevites. It's primarily about God, about His character, and especially about His limitless grace. And if God's grace can lift up a man as stubborn as Jonah and reach a people as wicked as Nineveh, then it can reach and transform every one of us!

Yet, Moses was obedient to God and continued to pursue a deeper relationship with Him. Moses wanted to know God more and more, and he gave us a great example with his request to God, 'Show me Your glory!' (Ex. 33:18) God wants to reveal Himself to us and He is the 'rewarder of those who seek Him.' (Heb. 11:6)

Because our flesh is bent toward selfishness, and because our adversary hates for God to be honored through our marriages, we should expect a great marriage to require much work...but the effort is worth the reward!

Divorce and Remarriage Blake Jennings Master_Teacher Matthew 19:3-9 Notes Slides
In this challenging passage, the Pharisees ask Jesus to pick sides in a well-known debate: 'Is a man allowed to divorce his wife for any and every reason?' Though He eventually answers the question in the negative, Jesus spends the majority of the passage correcting our false understanding of marriage. Marriage is not a legal contract to sign today and dissolve tomorrow. It's a new creation by God, Himself. Therefore, divorce inflicts serious pain and damage on all involved. Though it is allowed by God in narrowly defined situations, we should do absolutely everything we can to ensure that our marriages last a lifetime. [Parental warning: some portions of this sermon may not be appropriate for elementary age or younger children.]

What God has joined together... Brian Fisher Master_Teacher Matthew 19:3-9 Notes Slides
God's will is that marriage, between one man and one woman, last until they are parted by death. But in a broken world, that ideal is often not achieved. Are there ever any biblically permissible grounds for a marriage to be dissolved? What does Jesus say?

Build the Kingdom like Jesus Blake Jennings Master_Teacher Matthew 28:18-20 Notes Slides
After the leaders of the nation of Israel rejected their King, Jesus began to reveal a new form of God's kingdom on earth and a new way for that kingdom to grow. Rather than through political or military expansion, this new form of the kingdom, the church, would grow through the process of discipleship, a task all of us are called and equipped to participate in.

Being a Mom and a Disciple-Maker Brad Evans Master_Teacher   Notes Slides
God has uniquely given mothers the opportunity and responsibility to intentionally disciple their children. When we think of discipleship, we often think about the methods that Jesus or Paul used. This morning we will shift gears and focus on how MOTHERS can 'raise up the next generation of leaders' by transferring their faith to their children. Moms are designed to be disciple-makers.

Does God Still Perform Signs and Wonders? Matt Morton Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
Many Christian leaders today claim to be able to perform miracles. What are we to believe about such claims? Does God still perform signs and wonders in our day? If He can perform such great wonders, why doesn't He do them all the time? How can we evaluate the difference between a true miracle and a false one? We will examine all of these questions from the Bible.

The Unforgivable Sin Blake Jennings Master_Teacher Matthew 12:30-32 Notes Slides
Few passages have caused as much confusion, concern, and abject fear as Jesus' discussion of the unforgivable sin. Is there some sin that can put us beyond hope of redemption? We'll discover the answer as we survey the context of the book of Matthew and as we study what the New Testament reveals about the nature of our salvation.

Does God Still Perform Signs and Wonders? Trey Corry Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
In order to track down miracles in our present day, we look back at the biblical record to see what God did, why He did it, and when and where He did it in the past. The biblical record shows a historical pattern that makes miracles today possible but not normative and it also informs us as to our proper response to such miracles. Specifically, miracles are all about the message and not the messenger and they are meant for far more than entertainment of the masses!

What Does the Bible Say About the Value of Human Life? Trey Corry AdditionalSermons   Notes Slides

The Unpardonable Sin Brian Fisher Master_Teacher Matthew 12:30-32 Notes Slides
All sin has consequences. Fortunately, for every man and woman, payment has been made by Jesus Christ, and once payment has been received it can never be rescinded or returned. However, for those who adamantly refuse to accept Christ's payment on their behalf, the consequence is severe...and righteous.

Blessed By God - Part 2 Brian Fisher Master_Teacher Matthew 5:7-12 Notes Slides
The Beatitudes represent Jesus Christ's most succinct explanation of the abundant life, the life blessed by God. Consistent with Jesus' revelation of truth, the Beatitudes contain several of life's great paradoxes - blessed are the poor in spirit, blessed are those who mourn, blessed are the persecuted. It takes great faith to discover these great blessings!

Pray Like Jesus - Part 2 : The Lord's Prayer Blake Jennings Master_Teacher Matthew 6:9-13 Notes Slides
The Lord's prayer gives us not a formula to memorize, but a model to guide all of our prayers. This model teaches us to begin our prayers with worship and submission. Yes, God is our loving Father, but He is also our holy King. We exist to serve Him, not the other way around. Having begun with worship and submission, Jesus teaches us to then confidently ask God to provide for all of our needs, both physical and spiritual. Because God is our holy King and loving Father, we can depend upon Him to meet our every need.

Is God Republican or Democrat? - Politics and Social Justice in the Bible Trey Corry Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
While God does not affiliate Himself with political parties, He expects governments to protect the defenseless, promote righteousness, and punish evil. Yet no form of government, even a democracy, will perfectly fulfill such responsibilities. As a result, as citizens we are still to submit to the God-granted authority of governments but also personally respond to the great social injustices of our day while looking forward in hope to the coming kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Is God Republican or Democrat? - Politics and Social Justice in the Bible Matt Morton Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
The subject of politics is a tricky one to navigate, especially when combined with a discussion of the Christian faith. What does the Bible have to say about God's opinion of politics, government, social action, and our responsibilities in these arenas?

Pray Like Jesus - Part 1 Blake Jennings Master_Teacher   Notes Slides
As we study the prayer life of Jesus (the attitudes, actions, and habits that guided His prayers) four characteristics stand out. First, Jesus often let prayer trump sleep even though He knew better than we do how much our bodies needs rest. Second, Jesus loved to pray in the wilderness, in a place free of the distractions of life. Third, Jesus prayed with perseverance and repetition; asking for something once simply was not enough for Jesus. Finally, Jesus prayed as if He believed that heaven and hell were on the line; as if He believed that prayer could actually change things in eternally significant ways.

Blessed By God - Part 1 Brian Fisher Master_Teacher Matthew 5:1-6 Notes Slides
Can you imagine not needing, or even wanting, anything else in life? Can you imagine being fully and completely satisfied, perfectly content, and overflowing with joy? Jesus, in His first sermon recorded by Matthew, reveals just such a life - the life blessed by God. But you had better prepare yourself - it's probably not what you were expecting.

Can I Live Like Hell and Still Go to Heaven? Trey Corry Tough_Questions   Notes Slides

Easter According to Jesus Blake Jennings Master_Teacher   Notes Slides
Easter is not about colored eggs, bunnies, new cloths, or even attending church with your family. Easter is about a person. Easter is about Jesus and what He did for us on this weekend 2000 years ago. From the Gospels we discover the meaning and significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Great Expectations Brian Fisher Master_Teacher Luke 7:18-23 Notes Slides
All of God's children experience doubt from time to time - Is God listening? Does He care? Is He even real? Doubt is not sin. Disbelief is sin. But doubt is an opportunity to grow in our knowledge and trust of God.

Submission: Yielding of Our Will Brian Fisher Master_Teacher Luke 2:41-52 Notes Slides
Because of Adam's sin, we are born believing that life can only be good when we get our own way. Jesus teaches us another way - the best life is found when we yield our will to the will of the Father.

Is Eternal Life Really a Completely Free Gift? Matt Morton Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
Is it possible that God would give something as significant as eternal life for free? Is there anything that must be added to faith in the work of Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins? Let's examine what the Word of God says about this important subject.

Is Eternal Life Really a Completely Free Gift? Trey Corry Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
Eternal life is an absolutely free gift received by those with faith in Jesus Christ. One must not add works, baptism, or even the promise of future works and allegiance to Jesus as additional requirements along with faith to be saved. While the amazing gift of eternal life is received freely by us, it was provided at great cost in the precious blood of Jesus!

Spend Like Jesus Blake Jennings Master_Teacher Matthew 6:19-24 Notes Slides
Like the rest of the human race, we are so prone to misuse our wealth (our money and possessions). We fail to use it in ways that honor God because we misunderstand what wealth is and what it's for. Contrary to the opinion of this world, wealth is not a good goal to pursue in life because it is inherently unreliable, because it is potentially dangerous to our spiritual health, and because it has absolutely no eternal value. Yet, though it's not a good goal to pursue, it's an excellent tool to use to worship God, to provide for the needs of others, to advance the gospel, and to earn eternal reward.

Thy Will Be Done Brad Evans Master_Teacher   Notes Slides
Submission to authority is one of the genuine marks of spiritual maturity in a believer's life. Jesus Christ submitted to God the Father and we are to imitate His example. Jesus said, 'I can do nothing on My own initiative...I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.' (John 5:30) We are also instructed to joyfully submit to earthly authority that God has placed over us.

Is Hope in Sight? Danny Stimson College_Life Romans 8:18-25 Notes Slides
In Romans 8:18-25, Paul speaks of the suffering of all creation because of sin. This passage helps to demonstrate the depth of the effects of sin on all of creation. For us, we will all suffer in this life (physically, emotionally, and/or spiritually), but with eternal life with Christ as the hope we have for the future, the suffering is worth it. The Bible says so, so we should live so.

Seeking True Greatness Matt Morton Master_Teacher Matthew 20:20-28 Notes Slides

Get Rich Quick, Stay Rich Forever Brian Fisher Master_Teacher Matthew 6:19-24 Notes Slides

Am I Really Free or Has God Determined Everything? Matt Morton Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
The relationship between God's sovereignty and man's responsibility is a difficult issue to reconcile from the Scripture. We are going to examine two extreme options and then look at the Scripture for some biblical balance.

Forgive Like Jesus Blake Jennings Master_Teacher   Notes Slides
To forgive is to let go of an offense; to let go of both my right to demand payment or punishment and my right to remember and rehearse the offense. But that's not easy for us - it's incredibly hard to forgive people like Jesus did. So Jesus gives us not only instruction but also motivation. He tells us to forgive one another because, first, we have already been forgiven infinitely more by God, and second, because withholding forgiveness will cost us greatly - God will withhold His forgiveness of us and will allow us to experience the pain and suffering that always accompany an unforgiving heart. So let us turn to Him and ask for help to forgive one another like Jesus did.

Forgive (and Give) Like Jesus Brian Fisher Master_Teacher Luke 17:3-5 Notes Slides
To forgive is to release the debt and to bestow blessing in its place. Through Jesus Christ, God has forgiven the debt of our sin which we could never repay, and blessed us with life everlasting. When we forgive others, we become like God, the Great Forgiver.

What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality? Trey Corry Tough_Questions Genesis 1-2 Notes Slides
The Bible clearly lays out that Christ has paid the penalty for the sin of homosexuality (like every other sin) and also frees one from its power (like every other sin). Unfortunately, confusion and hostility towards this particular sin struggle has often left many struggling with it feeling unaccepted by self-righteous Christians. So we take a look at what homosexuality is, what causes it, whether its sinful, and how one begins to change and find freedom from it. (NOTE: This talk deals with very mature topics and is not appropriate for children under the age of 12.)

What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality? Matt Morton Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
The challenge of homosexuality has created a great deal of confusion and pain within our culture and even within the church. How are we to respond to this issue in a way that is truthful but also compassionate, reflecting the Gospel of Jesus Christ? (NOTE: This talk deals with very mature topics and is not appropriate for children under the age of 12.)

Salt and Light Blake Jennings Master_Teacher Matthew 5:13-16 Notes Slides
Why are we here? What is our purpose on earth? Certainly not to have fun - there's way too much sin and brokenness and suffering in this world to buy that lie! Through two metaphors, Jesus our king reveals His purpose for our time on earth: to be the salt and the light of the world. But salt is only effective if it remains distinctively salty, and light is only effective if it's held up in view of those who live in darkness. So the goal for our church, for our kids, and for ourselves is to live lives that are both distinctly Christ-centered and fully engaged with the unbelieving world around us so that all may come to know and glorify God.

Reflecting Jesus Brian Fisher Master_Teacher Matthew 5:10-16 Notes Slides
When we choose to live according to the paradoxes given by Jesus in the Beatitudes, we can expect suffering. These principles are so entirely contrary to the world's values that we should anticipate not praise but persecution. And when persecuted, as we respond like Jesus, we reveal truth and life to the world. This is our calling as citizens of the kingdom of heaven.

What Does the Bible Say About Sex? Trey Corry Tough_Questions 1 Corinthians 6:12-21 Notes Slides
God intended sex to be a wholistic exchange of all of life between two intimately known and deeply committed people within marriage. God intended sex to provide a picture of Him, procreation, and pleasure and yet it was to require great self-sacrifice and self-control. In a culture that has become obsessed with the pleasure that sex provides they have pursued an experience of sex that is so far different than what God intended and it has left us more hurting, used, and lonely than ever before. [NOTE FOR PARENTS: This sermon is not appropriate for children under 12 years of age.]

What Does the Bible Say About Sex? Matt Morton Tough_Questions   Notes Slides

What does Jesus say about Worry? Joel Mathai Master_Teacher Matthew 6:25-34 Notes Slides
While examining Jesus' teaching on Worry from the Sermon on the Mount, we find three reasons why we as believers should not worry: 1. We should not worry because of who God is, his character and person. 2. We should not worry because of who we are, in Christ. 3. We should not worry because of the promises in God's Word.

More to This Life Gary DeSalvo AdditionalSermons Ecclesiastes 2:1-26 Notes
As one teen said, 'Solomon had it all...brains, bucks and babes!' Yet Solomon concluded, 'Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.' In his search for meaning in life, Solomon turned to a self-indulgent lifestyle and then to a realistic analysis of life and death. For all of us who have thought that happiness is only a lottery ticket away or that wisdom alone is the answer to life's emptiness, Solomon says 'think again!' He concludes that apart from the giver of the gifts of life, life is 'vanity and chasing after the wind.' Without God life and labor is futile, with Him 'there is more to life.'

Why is there so much evil and suffering in the world? Matt Morton Tough_Questions   Notes Slides

Why is there so much evil and suffering in the world? Trey Corry Tough_Questions 1 Peter 1:3-9 Notes Slides
This difficult question arises not in classrooms and textbooks but bedside in hospitals, graveside at funerals, and in the arms of those hurting. In those places, one grasps that suffering is predictable (inevitable and even a privilege) and purposeful (not pointless and random) to highlight our hope, change our character, intensify our intimacy with the Lord, and extend our empathy.

Objections regarding whether the Bible was preserved accurately over time, originally recorded with historical accuracy, and scientifically plausible necessitate that we have an explanation that maintains our assurance in the inerrant and inspired Word of God. Does Absolute Truth Exist? Trey Corry Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
While many hold that absolute truth claims create a religious exclusivity that is both dangerous and untrue, there is an absolute necessity for externally revealed truth due to the flawed and finite nature of man who neither can intuit truth within nor respond appropriately to truth seen in Creation. As a result, we have a responsibility to know His spoken word better and to proclaim it boldly.

Does Absolute Truth Exist? Matt Morton Tough_Questions   Notes Slides
The concept of absolute truth has fallen on hard times in our postmodern society. However, truth is inescapable and necessary if we are to have any concept of how we ought to live. The Scripture is very clear that truth exists in moral and religious matters, and that truth is found in Jesus Christ.

The Work of Christ, Beginning to End: Conclusion to Series on Galatians Brian Fisher Galatians Galatians Notes Slides
Galatians is not simply about the gift of Christ received through "justification" by faith. Galatians is not only, or even primarily, about doctrine. Galatians is about the church. The work of Christ was and is the solution for the twin problems of the flesh that the Galatians, and the church today, were wrestling with - legalism and license. Through His work we have been set free from the penalty of sin, and we have been set free from the power of sin through His indwelling Spirit, so that we are free to love one another and thereby reflect the very character of Christ.

Our Greatest Problem Solved Blake Jennings Galatians Galatians 5:16-23 Notes Slides
The greatest problem that believers face in life: we know what we ought to do, but we don't do it. We know what's right, what's good for us, what God expects of us as His children. Yet so often we fall short. In fact, if left to our own resources, we will always fall short because we are still sinners by nature; we are still powerless to overcome the sinful leading of our flesh. But thank God that He has not left us alone in this struggle! He's given us His Almighty Spirit who can overcome the desires of our flesh and produce righteous actions and attitudes in our lives. But we must choose to cooperate. We must walk in His power and presence through faith, obedience, and practice.

When we "sow" (feed, invest in, nurture, etc.) the flesh (our innate drive to live independently from God), life won't work right. However, when we "sow" to the Spirit (orient our lives around listening to and following God's Spirit), our lives will display the fruit of the Spirit, especially a love for one another that helps one another become and grow as "spiritual" people.

Free to Love Blake Jennings Galatians Galatians 5:1-15 Notes Slides
Believers face a choice between three competing ways-of-life. The first, legalism, seeks to earn favor with God through self-effort. The second, license, seeks to satisfy the desires and cravings of our fallen human nature. Yet as opposite as these two ways-of-life sound, both lead to pain and destruction in our lives and harm those around us. Fortunately, there is a better way, the way of love. As we serve the needs of others in love we build one another up and fulfill all that God intended in the Law.

A Crisis of Character: The Life of Samson Matt Morton Joshua_Judges_Ruth Judges 13-16 Notes Slides
The life of Samson is a vivid illustration of the devastating consequences of ability without character.

Crash and Burn!: The Life of Samson Trey Corry Joshua_Judges_Ruth Judges 13-16 Notes Slides
As the book of Judges ends and the nation of Israel's descent into depravity deepens, Samson's life demonstrates the extent to which sin can destroy the people of God. Specifically, Samson's life reveals that while sin's destruction doesn't discriminate based on potential or promise and isn't immediate, it does lead to unending torture. Samson will realize in the end that the only strength against sin is in his weakness.

Sons and Heirs Blake Jennings Galatians Galatians 3:26-4:7 Notes Slides
By faith, not by works, we are all equally sons of God and fellow-heirs with Jesus Christ of the infinite blessings of God. Far from just a theological truth, being a son and heir of God brings peace, hope, joy, purpose, and growth to our lives. In fact, absolutely everything we need in this life is already ours as sons and heirs of God. And to enjoy these rich blessings, all we need to do is simply spend time in the presence of our Heavenly Father, our perfect 'papa' ('Abba').

The final years of Gideon's life serve as a cautionary tale for those who would seek personal ambition apart from submission to God. When we submit our ambitions to His glory, He can use us in significant ways. When we seek personal gain instead, we can leave behind a trail of corruption and devastation.

Freedom, Not Flesh Brian Fisher Galatians Galatians 5:13-26 Notes Slides
We are now free from the Law and the sin it elicits through Jesus Christ, our Emancipator. However, this is not a freedom to follow the lusts of the flesh, but a freedom to be and to become, to speak and to act, to feel and to fulfill all that God has created us for in Christ Jesus. This freedom can be summed up in a word - love.

Looking for Love? Trey Corry Joshua_Judges_Ruth Ruth 3-4 Notes Slides

Choose Freedom Brian Fisher Galatians Galatians 5:1-12 Notes Slides

The Family - God's Original Small Group Brad Evans Family Genesis 2:18-25 Notes Slides
Small groups are very important to the church. They provide an environment where we develop community with one another, live out the 'one another commandments' (love one another, pray for one another, etc.), study God's Word together...all for the purpose of growing in Christ-likeness. The family IS God's original small group, and these small group dynamics should also be happening in our homes. Instead of just 'out-sourcing' the spiritual growth of our children to the paid professionals, we need to own the responsibility of intentionally developing our children and seeing God grow them toward maturity. For this to take place, we must first and foremost have strong and Christ-focused marriages. The relationship between a husband and wife is the most important relationship in the family.

Who Is In Control? Brian Fisher Galatians Galatians 4:8-31 Notes Slides
Paul continues his argument that there are only two pathways for life - following the Spirit with confidence in Christ, or enslavement to the flesh because of confidence in self. Paul's appeal for Christ is both personal and passionate. It is also applicable to us today. Will we bend low, every day, and walk according to the humble example of the Savior? Will we find power in submitting our wills to the will of God, or will we continue with vain and foolish attempts to live independently from God?

Don't Forget to Remember Chris Pletcher AdditionalSermons Psalm 106:7-21 Notes Slides
We are a forgetful people. It is far to easy for us to lose sight of who God is and what He has done in our lives. The people of Israel in the Old Testament provide a perfect example of the consequences of such forgetfulness. If we learn from their mistakes, we can grow as people who practice gratitude and remembrance so that we will not lose sight of our Great God and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

No More Nanny! Matt Morton Galatians Galatians 3:15-25 Notes Slides
Now that we have received the promises of eternal life and righteousness before God through faith alone, we no longer need a list of regulations such as the Law to tell us how to live. We live by obedience to the Spirit instead, because He is sufficient to teach us to obey.

Goodbye to the Nanny Blake Jennings Galatians Galatians 3:15-25 Notes Slides
We are justified (declared righteous in God's sight) and sanctified (grown in spiritual maturity) by faith alone, not by obedience to the Law. So why did God give us the Law? Is the Law a bad thing? Is the Law worthless? Absolutely not! The Law is a gracious gift from God that played an incredibly significant role in the life of the nation of Israel and in lives of all men and women who don't yet know Jesus. But now that we are united to Jesus by faith, it's time to move beyond the rules and regulations of the Law into the freedom and joy of walking by the Spirit.

Idolatry is the substitution of anything else in our lives in the place of God. The book of Judges demonstrates the terrible consequences when God's people stop obeying Him and choose to worship idols.

Sola Fide Blake Jennings Galatians Galatians 3:1-14 Notes Slides
There exist just two fundamental ways we can live out our lives on earth: we can rely on our works to earn us points with God, or we can rely on faith in the finished work of Christ. This is true of both our justification (the beginning our relationship with God), and our sanctification (the ongoing process of transformation into the image of Christ). The way of works leads only to the curse of God while the way of faith leads to blessing, freedom, and joy.

The Blessing of Abraham Brian Fisher Galatians Galatians 3:1-14 Notes Slides

Keeping the Gospel Clear Blake Jennings Galatians Galatians 2:11-21 Notes Slides
Justification is God's declaration that a person "measures up" in His sight. It is through justification that we find forgiveness of our sins and enter into an eternal relationship with God. But how do we become justified? Is it through faith alone in the work of Jesus alone, as Paul proclaims? Or, as Peter and so many Christians down through the centuries have taught, must we add our good works to our faith to earn justification?

Is the Gospel Worth Fighting For? Brian Fisher Galatians Galatians 2:11-21 Notes Slides
Justification - God declaring a person to be in right relationship with Him. Does this declaration occur through faith alone in the work of Christ only, or must we also do some form of good works? Even the most eminent of Christians (Peter, for example) can fall prey to the deceit that somehow we can add to the work of Christ. Thank God that on that all important day, we must only plead the blood of Jesus Christ. His work on our behalf - full, final, forever.

Grace: Proven by its Power Blake Jennings Galatians Galatians 1:11-2:10 Notes Slides
Paul's life proved that the gospel of grace was from God - it was the real thing, the genuine article, the one and only way of salvation. Nothing but the supernatural grace of God could have redeemed such a violent and self-righteous man and transformed him into the greatest apostle and preacher to the Gentile world. Paul's life proves to us that no one is beyond the reach of the gospel, and no one is beyond the power of God's grace in Jesus Christ. Do you believe this about yourself? Do you believe it on behalf of others?

The Wisdom of Surrender Brian Fisher Wisdom_Literature Psalm 2 Notes Slides
It is tempting to think that if we could just be free from all authority in our lives, if we could achieve complete independence with no one telling us what to do, then we could be happy. In fact, that is the first temptation that tripped up Adam and Eve, sending them tumbling out of the garden. The truth is, our greatest blessing, joy and security is found in absolute surrender to the Sovereign of the universe. This is a great paradox - freedom through slavery to a good and gracious Master.

Psalm 139 is one of the most comprehensive, deeply theological, penetrating, soul searching and convicting passages of the Old Testament. As we examine this marvelous piece of Hebrew poetry we find, four truths about God that should result in our obeisance. God is omniscient, he is omnipresent, he is omnipotent and he is all-righteous. This intensely personal passage of scripture, will in the end lead you to search your own heart and worship this great God as did David.

It is good, once in a while, to pause and reflect on your life. Does my life make any difference to anyone at all? Most of us seem to leave God out of the daily equation and only call on him when we need him. As we continue the Wisdom Series this summer, I want to suggest we follow Solomon's exhortation in Proverbs 3 and live according to God's agenda. This involves a complete trust in Him on a daily basis. We can confidently trust God because he is sovereign and because he is good and only desires good for us. Like the old hymn goes, all we need to do is trust and obey.

The Way of Wisdom: Making Decisions Within The Will of God Brian Fisher Wisdom_Literature Proverbs 2:1-11 Notes Slides
We all want to know the will of God, but many times understanding His mind on a matter seems confusing at best. We must remember that wisdom is a way of life, not an isolated event. We begin by obeying what has been clearly revealed, then we take advantage of all other sources God has provided for us. And then, at the point of decision we have to remember that our confidence is not in our own decision-making ability, rather our confidence is in the sovereign and good Master whom we follow.

Life in Vanity Fair - An Overview of Ecclesiastes Blake Jennings Wisdom_Literature Ecclesiastes Notes Slides
Few books of the Bible speak as honestly and powerfully as Ecclesiastes to the doubt, cynicism, and despair that characterize our times. Solomon wrote the first twelve and a half chapters in the midst of what we might call a mid-life crisis, a time of incredible disillusionment and depression. With insight and wisdom he sees accurately the profound brokenness of this world and our inability to fix it. He learns that nothing in this world can ever satisfy our craving for more, and that all the pleasures and pursuits of this life ultimately end in death. Fortunately, the book doesn't end on this despairing note, for years later Solomon returns, wiser and more clear-headed, to write a six-verse conclusion that gives us hope and meaning even in the midst of life's disappointments.

The world today is pulling at our kids - and pulling hard. Children need the help of parents even though they may not ask for it. The primary responsibility for proper parenting falls upon the father as leader in the home. The biblical task of the father is to nurture his children, teaching them to love and obey God. Children are a serious responsibility. At the very beginning of history when God created this world he proclaimed that - it is not good for man to be alone, and thru Adam he created the institution of family. Families are the soul of a nation. In our own nation many fathers have forsaken their God-given responsibilities to their children.

This amazing muscle has the power to build up or crush someone's spirit; to sing a baby to sleep or to split a church; to bless or curse God...the choice is mine.

Magical Myth or Historical Happening? Trey Corry Miracles Matthew 8:23-28 Notes Slides
Miracles are extraordinary works of God that produce awe and bears witness of God. In order for us to be amazed though and understand what they reveal, it is crucial that we believe they are real even if we cannot reproduce them, observe them, or experience them first-hand.

The Art of Skillful Living Brad Evans Wisdom_Literature Proverbs 1:1-7 Notes Slides
This summer we have selected messages from 'Wisdom Literature' (Job, selected Psalms, and the writings of Solomon). In Proverbs, Solomon is writing a 'parenting manual' that contains God's wisdom and is intended to be intentionally passed on to the next generation of leaders. Solomon also reminds us that the foundation or beginning point of wisdom is our world view. 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom' (Prov. 9:10). The wise maxims that Solomon writes to us reveal two paths in life: 1) The world's path that leads to death (Prov. 16:25); and God's path that leads to life and blessing (Prov. 24:3-4).

The Duty of Joy Brian Fisher Philippians Philippians 4:4-9 Notes Slides
Joy is not merely the result of certain actions or attitudes. Joy is a command. Joy is duty. So then, how do we obey this command? By finding our joy in the Lord. Do not be deceived by our adversary. Any attempt to find joy in anything other than Jesus Christ will result in fear, anxiety and frustration. True joy, joy that transcends all earthly circumstances, can only be found in Him.

Pathway to Peace Blake Jennings Philippians Philippians 4:4-9 Notes Slides
Stress, anxiety, worry... these are often our companions in this hectic world. But while we can't eliminate stress from our lives, we can learn to manage it well; to reduce and gradually replace it with the supernatural peace of God. In this passage, Paul gives us a four-step pathway to God's peace: show others grace, practice thankful prayer, discipline your thought-life, and practice obedience to Christ.

Learning the Mystery of Contentment Brian Fisher Philippians Philippians 4:10-23 Notes Slides
Contentment... in any and every circumstance, in plenty and in want...is a rare achievement. The only ones who find it are those who put Christ at the very center of life. If pursuing Him and proclaiming His greatness is your reason for living, nothing can touch you. And then, when you stand in His presence some day, you will know the joy of hearing Him say 'Well done,' in the company of those who have chosen to live for Christ above all else.

Resisting the Enemy Matt Morton 1Peter 1 Peter 5:8-14 Notes Slides

The Value of Money Blake Jennings Philippians Philippians 4:10-23 Notes Slides
Few things have as much impact on our lives as money. That's a reality God understands well. He cares deeply about our money and about how we use it, because what we do with our money demonstrates what we truly love and value most in life. So in this final passage of Philippians, a thank-you letter from Paul for the Philippians' recent financial gift, God reveals to us both the power and limitations of our money. Our money can accomplish great things in our lives and in the lives of others if we will only use it wisely.

Can't we all just get along? Reducing and Resolving Conflict Blake Jennings Philippians Philippians 4:2-3 Notes Slides
Conflict comes naturally to the human race. Whether in our marriages, with our parents, with friends, neighbors, or coworkers, we frequently find ourselves in conflict with others. And that conflict always causes pain and stress. So how do we avoid conflict with others? And when conflict does occur, how do we resolve it quickly and as painlessly as possible? In this short but rich passage Paul lays out seven principles for reducing and resolving conflict; principles that will help us find greater peace with one another and greater effectiveness in this life for the Lord.

Reconciled... For the Sake of Christ Brian Fisher Philippians Philippians 4:1-3 Notes Slides
Reconciliation is what God is all about. When His people fail to resolve conflict, the world will not see Jesus. Rather than being known as followers of Christ by our love, we will look just like everyone else. However, when we forgive and restore our relationships, we are personally blessed, and those who are alienated from God receive a beautiful picture of the forgiveness that all can receive through Christ. Therefore...forgive one another, stop demanding payment, live for the reputation of Christ and not the defense of your own rights!

Life Under the Lamp of Judgment Trey Corry 1Peter 1 Peter 4:1-11 Notes Slides

To Know Christ is Life Brian Fisher Philippians Philippians 3:10-16 Notes Slides
Because we have received the absolutely free gift of Christ's righteousness, we have also received the privilege of knowing Him in an ever-deepening, personal relationship. As we identify fully with Jesus Christ in every way, including suffering for the sake of His name, we come to know the power of His resurrection in our daily lives. This is the great goal of life - to know Jesus Christ fully as we have been fully known. It will require all of our focus and all of our energy. We will experience distractions from lesser goals, regret from the past, and a variety of temptations to quit. Never give up. Press on to know Jesus.

To Know Christ is Life, The Rest is Just Details Blake Jennings Philippians Philippians 3:2-16 Notes Slides
Jesus Christ is everything to us. Our spiritual life begins when we receive the gift of righteousness through faith in Christ. It then grows and expands as we pursue Christ in an ever-deepening, personal relationship. As we come to know Jesus more fully we experience more of His blessings, learn to rest in His peace, become more like Him in every way, and earn reward when we finally see Him face-to-face. Knowing Jesus more is the great goal of life, but it requires us to set aside our distractions, our regret from the past, and our constant tendency to coast on our present progress. So let us encourage one another to press on to know Jesus more.

Easter, are you missing it? Blake Jennings Philippians Philippians 2:5-11, 3:4-9 Notes
So many of us miss the point of Easter, the most significant weekend of the entire year. On this date some 2000 years ago, Jesus, the perfect Son of God and our Almighty Creator willingly suffered humiliation and death on a crucifix to pay the penalty for our sins, and then three days later triumphantly rose from the dead in victory. Because of what Jesus did on that first Easter we can finally stop striving to earn our way to God, to merit His love, and can simply cling to Christ in faith knowing that His death and resurrection have earned us infinite righteousness and eternal life.

The Real Thing Brian Fisher Philippians Philippians 3:1-9 Notes Slides
The simple message of Easter is always under assault... from the secularized version of bunnies and eggs that trivializes the powerful message of death, burial and resurrection, to the religionized version that adds human contribution to the finished work of Christ. Beware - Satan has always been, and will always be, at work to take our minds away from an empty cross and an empty tomb... Christ triumphant and exalted.

Imitate Those who Imitate Christ Blake Jennings Philippians Philippians 2:19-30; 3:17-21 Notes Slides
We learn through imitation. We are born that way. We imitate others, and others imitate us...for better or for worse, depending on the examples we choose to follow and the example we set. The Apostle Paul gives us two excellent role models in Timothy and Epaphroditus, men who lived their lives sacrificially for the glory of Christ and the good of others.

Work Out Your Salvation! Blake Jennings Philippians Philippians 2:12-18 Notes Slides
God calls us to grow in the likeness of His Son; to "work out" our sanctification. But in the midst of a world as sinful and rebellious as ours, and with a heart as sinful and rebellious as mine, how do I do it? How do I grow up in righteousness? Fortunately, God doesn't leave me alone in this process. My part is to consistently choose to obey Jesus Christ in every area of my life out of a healthy sense of fear, for I will be judged by Him. God's part is to both empower my obedience today and transform my desires so that I want to obey more tomorrow. As He works to empower my work, I become a witness for Christ to the world and my obedience becomes a sacrifice of worship to God.

Choose and Abuse? Steven Villacin College_Life Romans 6:8-14 Notes Slides
God pours upon us such lavish grace that it provides us the option to abuse it. His grace will always prompt in us the choice to respond in honor, or in abuse. All We Like Sheep Blake Jennings AdditionalSermons Psalm 23 Notes Slides
Psalm 23 was never meant for the inside of a Hallmark card. It was crafted by David to surprise us, to shock us so that we would see clearly the extravagance of God's grace and our desperate helplessness without Him. But to comprehend how shocking this passage is meant to be, we must read it again as if for the first time and must dig in to the background to see it as David's original audience would have seen it.

In Psalm 18, King David reflects back on a period of his life when his enemies were trying to kill him. David desperately cries out to God for help ('My God, my rock in whom I take refuge').
